British Columbia Singled Out For Mountain Biking

British Columbia is now recognized as the "ultimate global mountain biking location" according to the International Mountain Bicycling Association's (IMBA) annual report card.

Whistler was also given high praise as the "benchmark for lift-accessed mountain biking" providing a huge vote of confidence for all mountain biking along the North Shore-Squamish-Whistler corridor (a.k.a. Sea to Sky).

"Over all it's great to get that kind of compliment or recognition from people who are close to things in the industry," said Rob McSkimming, the Whistler Mountain Bike Park Director.

The report was also a tremendous endorsement for the many community mountain biking clubs in the province such as NSMBA and WORCA.

The IMBA survey covered several countries around the world including the US, the British Isles, Israel, Italy, Australia, and Mexico.

Trail Conditions: for the latest updates, check out NSMB’s Trail Conditions Board www.nsmba.bc.ca. Why not get some first hand trail maintenance experience while you’re here? The North Shore Mountain Biking Association (NSMBA) organizes trail maintenance days every month between April-October.

In The Press
Donna Green, founder of Ride the Shore Inc., conducted a survey about mountain biking tourism in conjunction with IMBA in 2003. Did you know that 80% of IMBA members have taken a trip specifically to go mountain biking? Interested in where they went and why, what mountain biking magazines they read etc? Read the results at www.imba.com/resources/science/travel_patterns.html

*It is important that you are aware that riding on the North Shore, in Squamish, and in Whistler is very different than what you may be used to. Due to the climate and topography of the Coast Mountain range, trails can be very steep and rugged. Be aware that the risk of injury is considerable.
